USDA Secretary Advocates for Farmers Facing Eminent Domain Seizure of Land

The city is forcing the sale of family farmland to facilitate the construction of state-mandated affordable housing.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins expressed support for a New Jersey family fighting to keep their 21-acre property from being seized by the city government. The city is attempting to use eminent domain to buy the centuries-old farm at a reduced price to build affordable housing mandated by state law. Officials say that they will obtain the farmland whether the owners want to sell their property or not, even though it has been in the family for 175 years.

“While this particular case is a city eminent domain issue, we at USDA are exploring every legal option to help,” Secretary Rollins said. The USDA secretary later stated that she had contacted Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba regarding the situation.

The agriculture secretary reported that she spoke to the brothers who own the family farm, Chris and Andy Henry. Secretary Rollin also included a link for others to report if their farm “has been the target of government overreach.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Acting U.S. Attorney Habba to be discerning in her attempts to assist the family in keeping their land.
  • For wisdom for USDA Secretary Rollins as she oversees the many agencies within her department.
