The department authorized Indiana, Arkansas, Idaho, Utah, Iowa, and Nebraska to exclude “unhealthy” foods.
Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins signed federal waivers last week for the states of Indiana, Arkansas, Idaho, Utah, Iowa, and Nebraska, allowing them to modify food stamp policy to prevent the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP) to purchase “unhealthy” food. The exclusions are for soda, no-calorie soda, fruit, and vegetable drinks with less than 50 percent natural juice, and candy.
Secretary Rollins said, “The Trump Administration is unified in improving the health of our nation. America’s governors have proudly answered the call to innovate by improving nutrition programs, ensuring better choices while respecting the generosity of the American taxpayer.“
She added, “Each waiver submitted by the states and signed is yet another step closer to fulfilling President Trump’s promise to Make America Healthy Again.”
Secretary Rollins authorized these waivers in collaboration with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who was present for the signing of the waivers.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Rollins to seek God’s direction as she oversees the Department of Agriculture.
- For prudence for Secretary Kennedy as he heads the Department of Health and Human Services.
- For discernment for Administrator James Miller as he manages the Food and Nutrition Service.
